United States
I am raising funds for my friend based in Cairo. He and his family lost everything while fleeing Gaza and are trying to rebuild a new home in France. Read their story below.

Hello, my name is Mohammed Al Halabi. I am a Palestinian artist, educator, and graphic designer from Gaza. I am writing this with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit, asking for your support to help me and my family rebuild our lives in safety.
I am a father of two beautiful children — Moataz (12) and Liana (8) — and the husband of Noor, my life partner and support through years of work and struggle. For over 15 years, I was active as a graphic design lecturer, trainer, and creative professional in Gaza, contributing to my community through education, visual storytelling, and cultural engagement.
But everything changed during the most recent war on Gaza.
Displacement and Survival
We lost our home, our car, our studios, and our community in Gaza City. We were forced to flee first to Khan Younis, then to Rafah moving from tent to tent, simply trying to survive. Food, shelter, medicine, and safety became distant dreams. I was no longer able to continue working or ensure a stable education for my children. We made the difficult decision to flee to Egypt in search of basic security and dignity.
A Ray of Hope: Acceptance into the PAUSE Program
Recently, I received a life-changing opportunity: I have been invited to an artistic and researche-based residency at Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris, in the frame of the PAUSE program in France a national initiative designed to host artists and researchers at risk, supported by Collège de France.
This opportunity, made possible through the support of the initiative “MAAN – Together for Gaza’s Artists”, will allow me to rebuild my career in a nurturing creative environment, and most importantly, provide my family with safety, education, and dignity.
What’s Missing? Why I Need Your Help
While part of the funding has already been generously pledged (€14,000 from MAAN and €13,000 from Paris Sciences Lettres (PSL), there is still a shortfall of €23,000 to cover the full one-year residency, which includes: •A monthly salary for one year for basic living expenses for me and my family •Housing •Schooling for my children •Artistic materials and setup The PAUSE program no longer has funds to cover this shortfall. Without this additional support, I cannot complete the process — and the opportunity may be lost.
How You Can Help Your contribution — no matter how small — will bring us closer to safety and hope. It will allow me to return to what I do best: creating, designing, teaching, and contributing to the world through art and culture.
If you can’t donate, please share this campaign widely. Awareness is power.
